Harper's Ferry - Battlefield

Harper's Ferry was our first visit to a Civil War battlefield. We read about the regiments, battalions, divisions, etc. and how the armies were arranged on Bolivar Heights overlooking the town. It was and still is pretty wide open, but in 1860's there we no trees - as they were all cut down for houses and fuel.

We toured the battlefield and took lots of pictures of cannons - before we found out that cannons were everywhere.

A shot of Bolivar Heights overlooking the town, the surrounding hills and the confluence of the two rivers (Shenandoah and Pot0mac) ... plus miscellaneous cannon shots.
