At last, the Beginning - Harper's Ferry

It stopped raining .. so we could go out and DO something.  Well, we did a LOT of something as we toured the area around Southern PA, the panhandle of MD and the panhandle of WV.

First, and the subject of this post was Harper's Ferry, West Virginia ... which we visited on Saturday (June 8th).

Harper's Ferry is strategically located at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. Historically it is significant as it was only 1 of 2 sites of a Union armory at the time of the Civil War. With the armory as a central industry, a small town grew up around it. Quite a bit of town has been restored and keep in the period. It is a National Park. It was the site of battles in the Civil War as the armory was a strategic advantage to whoever "owned" it.

Harper's Ferry is also the halfway spot of the Appalachian Trail, it abuts the C&O canal, and the B&O railroad.

The following pictures are a walking tour of the restored area.
