We are back in Maine ----  for one day!

We have a house sit in Bequia, an island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The sit will be 6 weeks.
Arrival will be Thursday AM.  We will update more as we settle in

Korean War Memoral - Part 2

At the KWM

While at the KWM, we saw a large number of Asian tourists. Not knowing any nationalities, I simply shot a few scenes of the crowd. After viewing them all, this one stood out. It seemed to suggest some underlying outcome - a connection. Is she distracted or conflicted?

What added more to the feeling in this shot is the inscription in the ground - right at the feet of the lady.

Korean War Veterans Memorial

I guess it has been a while since I was last in DC. I had not seen the Korean War Memorial, yet  it was completed in 1995. Many people suggest that it is one of the best memorial in DC.

In a word -- Stunning!

Unlike other memorials, KWM depicts troops on patrol and gives a look/sense into their intensity. It is well located, suggesting an active patrol emerging from the woods. The KWM offers a glimpse into the kind of action that might have occurred during that war.  For us, it was very engaging and evocative.... maybe a bit haunting. There are a total of 19 soldiers.

Another nice tour - Library of Congress

We didn't know much about the Library of Congress, what it was like, what it contained, etc., but our friend in the Capitol Police could get us a private tour ... so we went.

Very simply -- WOW.  The place is unbelievable - big - and beautiful.

Here is what it looks like from the capitol

See the dome on the top.... the bigger diameter section was our first stop. Here again, not many people get to go there. A bit of radio communication got us cleared from the "higher up" police ... required since where we were going could offer a very good shooting position. We didn't want to arrive there unannounced!

We did feel special in so much as we bypassed all the signs and ultimately ended up in the place virtually by ourselves (and our tour guide) ... most of our time inside was after the place had closed.

 Do not enter - HA! -- we just walked down those stairs.

I was told I looked like this guy

Library of Congress contains the complete  Jefferson library. I read about this during a read of "Undaunted Courage" in which Merriweather Lewis (Lewis and Clark) studied with Jefferson for a few years before the journey.  Needless to say, I was impressed. But it is rather hard to show the grandness of the collection.

We have been getting out and walking a bunch around Georgetown.. very trendy, and pricey for homes.
